COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Health Psychology curriculum is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of psychological principles applied to health, illness, and behaviour change, combining research, theory, and practical skills. In the first semester, students undertake units in Critical, Creative and Comprehensive Research Methodologies, developing robust research skills, and explore Professional Issues through Academic Skills to enhance their scholarly capabilities. They study Critical, Creative and Comprehensive Systematic Reviewing to engage with and evaluate existing literature, Psychology in Clinical Practice 1 to apply psychological principles in health contexts, and Health and Society to understand the broader societal influences on health. The second semester builds on this foundation, with units in Critical, Creative and Comprehensive Research Analysis, enabling students to interpret and present research findings, and Mind and Body, examining the interactions between psychological and physiological processes. Health Behaviour Change equips students with strategies to design and evaluate interventions, while Professional Issues: Workplace Skills develops practical skills for professional practice. Across the program, students also complete a dissertation, providing an opportunity to undertake independent research under supervision. The course is delivered in parallel with the MSc in Clinical and Health Psychology, sharing key units in the first semester, ensuring a strong grounding in research, clinical applications, and professional competencies necessary for progression towards a career in health psychology or further doctoral study.
