COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Global Development (Poverty and Inequality) equips students with the knowledge and skills to critically examine poverty, inequality, and social development within global contexts. The program provides a solid foundation in development fundamentals, research methods, and fieldwork, enabling students to engage with practical and theoretical aspects of development practice. Core modules explore poverty and development, global development challenges, and global inequalities, fostering an understanding of how social, economic, and political structures shape patterns of inequality. Students also gain expertise in development research, culminating in a dissertation that allows for in-depth investigation into a specific area of interest, enhancing analytical and problem-solving capabilities. The curriculum encourages critical thinking through a combination of lectures, fieldwork, tutorials, and assessments designed to reflect real-world development issues. Optional modules such as global political economy, gender inequality, and globalisation, trade, and development allow students to tailor their learning to particular interests, providing a broader perspective on the forces shaping global development.
