COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Electrical Power Systems Engineering program offers comprehensive training in the analysis, design, and management of modern electrical power systems, combining theoretical knowledge with practical applications to meet the demands of the energy sector. Core modules such as Power System Operation and Economics, Smart Distribution Networks, Electrical Machines and Power Electronic Modelling, and Power System Dynamics and Stability provide students with a deep understanding of power generation, transmission, distribution, and the operational principles that underpin efficient and reliable electrical networks. Additional modules, including Power System Plant and Asset Management, Power System Planning and Resilience, Power System Analysis and Control, and Power System Protection and Communications, equip students with the skills to ensure system reliability, optimise performance, and integrate emerging technologies such as renewable energy and smart grid solutions. The Dissertation allows students to undertake an extended research project, applying engineering principles and analytical methods to real-world power system challenges. Throughout the program, students develop critical technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, alongside professional competencies necessary for multidisciplinary teamwork and project management. Graduates leave prepared for careers in power system engineering, renewable energy, consultancy, research and development, and industrial sectors, with the expertise to design, operate, and optimise sustainable, resilient, and future-ready electrical power systems on both national and international scales.
