COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Data Science (Urban Analytics) program combines advanced data science training with applications in urban studies, property, and planning, equipping students to tackle complex challenges in cities and communities. Core modules such as Statistics and Machine Learning 1: Statistical Foundations and Statistics and Machine Learning 2: AI, Complex Data, Computationally Intensive Statistics provide rigorous training in statistical analysis, machine learning, and computational methods for handling large and complex datasets. Understanding Databases and Understanding Data and their Environment develop essential skills in data organisation, management, and contextual interpretation, while Applying Data Science focuses on practical applications, enabling students to translate data insights into actionable strategies. The Extended Research Project allows students to undertake an independent, supervised study, integrating analytical, computational, and urban planning methods to address real-world urban challenges. Optional modules, including Land and Development, Real Estate Investment and Finance, Advanced Real Estate Finance, and Property Valuation, allow students to specialise in property analytics and financial aspects of urban planning. The program fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, critical thinking, and professional skills such as problem-solving, communication, and project management. Graduates are prepared for careers in urban policy, planning, consultancy, property analytics, and research, combining technical expertise with strategic insight to inform data-driven decision-making and sustainable urban development.
