COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Data Science (Computer Science Data Informatics) program provides a comprehensive education in data science, combining statistical, computational, and practical skills to prepare students for careers in a range of data-driven fields. Core modules such as Statistics and Machine Learning 1: Statistical Foundations and Statistics and Machine Learning 2: AI, Complex Data, Computationally Intensive Statistics give students a strong grounding in analytical techniques, machine learning, and computational methods for handling complex datasets. Understanding Databases and Understanding Data and their Environment develop essential data management, organisation, and contextual analysis skills, ensuring students can effectively work with large, heterogeneous data. The Applying Data Science module focuses on translating theory into practice by solving real-world problems using programming languages such as R, Python, and SQL. The Extended Research Project allows students to undertake an independent, supervised research project, integrating statistical, computational, and domain knowledge. Optional modules including Secure Computer Architecture and Systems, Formal Methods for Software Verification, Security and Computer Science, and Data Engineering Concepts and Technologies allow students to tailor their studies, gaining expertise in areas such as secure computing, software verification, and advanced data engineering.
