COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Data Science (Business and Management) program provides students with a strong foundation in statistical analysis, machine learning, and practical data science applications within business contexts. Core modules such as Statistics and Machine Learning 1: Statistical Foundations and Statistics and Machine Learning 2: AI, Complex Data, Computationally Intensive Statistics develop students’ ability to analyse and model complex datasets using advanced computational techniques. Understanding Databases and Understanding Data and their Environment equip students with essential skills in data management, organisation, and contextual analysis, ensuring they can handle large and varied datasets effectively. The Applying Data Science module focuses on translating theoretical knowledge into practical solutions, allowing students to tackle real-world business problems. A central component of the program is the Extended Research Project, which enables students to conduct independent, supervised research, integrating data science techniques with business insights. Optional modules, including Mathematical Programming and Optimisation, HRM: Strategy and Practice, Simulation & Risk Analysis, and Financial Data Analytics & AI in Finance, allow students to specialise and apply data science skills to areas such as optimisation, human resources, risk management, and finance. Overall, the program combines technical, analytical, and strategic skills, preparing graduates for data-driven careers across business, finance, consultancy, and research, equipping them to derive actionable insights and inform decision-making in complex organisational environments.
