COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Computational and Corpus Linguistics program combines theoretical linguistics with computational and statistical methods to develop expertise in natural language processing and data-driven linguistic research. Core modules such as Corpus Linguistics, Computational Linguistics 1 and 2, and the two Research Methods in Computational and Corpus Linguistics modules build a strong foundation in programming, data analysis, and the design of computational systems for language understanding. These courses train students to use corpus-based methods to analyze linguistic patterns and to apply computational tools for modelling and processing human language. The Dissertation module provides the opportunity to conduct independent research on a specialist topic, allowing students to apply theoretical and practical knowledge to real-world linguistic questions under expert supervision. Optional modules such as Psycholinguistics, Describing Language, Foundational Statistics with R, and Experimental Phonetics enable students to explore interdisciplinary areas and strengthen analytical and experimental skills relevant to cognitive and statistical approaches to language. Together, these modules offer comprehensive training for careers in academia, language technology, and artificial intelligence. The program equips graduates with advanced computational, linguistic, and research skills essential for roles involving natural language processing, corpus analysis, and data-driven linguistic innovation.
