COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Clinical Biochemistry program is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of disease mechanisms, diagnostic methods, and specialist biochemical techniques. Core modules such as Diseases of Major Organs and Cancer, Introduction to Clinical Biochemistry, and Endocrinology and Diabetes build a strong foundation in the biochemical processes underlying major health conditions and metabolic disorders. Specialist Biochemistry and Analytical Methods further enhance students’ knowledge of advanced laboratory techniques and their application in clinical diagnostics. The Research Skills Masterclass and the non-credit Research Methods module develop essential scientific, analytical, and problem-solving skills required for independent investigation and professional practice. The program also includes Paediatric Biochemistry, which focuses on biochemical analysis and interpretation in childhood diseases, preparing students for specialist roles in healthcare laboratories. A significant part of the course is the Clinical Biochemistry Dissertation, where students undertake a detailed research project, applying theoretical understanding to a practical or experimental study. Together, these modules provide the scientific depth and research experience necessary for careers in clinical laboratories, the pharmaceutical industry, or biomedical research, while fostering a strong understanding of how biochemical analysis supports disease diagnosis, patient care, and therapeutic decision-making in modern medical practice.
