COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Advanced Engineering Materials program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required for advanced materials engineering and research. Core units provide a strong foundation in materials science, covering the principles of advanced engineering materials, metals processing, and superalloys and high-performance materials, while optional units such as advanced composites and graphene and nanomaterials allow students to specialise in cutting-edge areas. The course also emphasises research skills and professional development through units in research methods and a substantial dissertation project, enabling students to design, conduct, and present original research. Ethical and professional practice is incorporated through the Respect and Dignity at Manchester module, fostering a well-rounded approach to engineering practice. Learning combines theoretical study with practical and experimental applications, including hands-on laboratory work, material characterisation, and project-based learning in state-of-the-art facilities.
