COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Visual Anthropology program offers a rigorous and immersive curriculum that combines theoretical study with practical training in visual and sensory methods. Core modules, including the MAVA Dissertation, Elemental Media: Documentary and Sensory Practice, Ethnographic Documentary, Beyond Observational Cinema, Images, Text, Fieldwork, Anthropology of Vision, Senses and Memory, and Screening Culture, provide students with a comprehensive understanding of anthropological theory, ethnographic research, and visual storytelling techniques. Through these modules, students gain hands-on experience in filmmaking, editing, photography, and sound, learning to apply sensory and visual methods to the study of human culture and society. Optional modules such as Key Approaches in Social Anthropology and additional Beyond Observational Cinema courses allow students to tailor their learning, deepening their theoretical knowledge or refining their practical skills.
