COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Translation and Interpreting Studies program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to develop both professional competence and academic understanding in translation and interpreting. Core modules such as the Introduction to Translation and Interpreting Studies and the MATIS Dissertation provide students with a strong theoretical foundation and the opportunity to conduct independent research, enhancing analytical and scholarly skills. Optional modules allow students to specialise according to career interests, including Translating for Business and Institutions, Translating for the Creative and Heritage Industries, Interpreting for Business and Public Services, and Dialogue Interpreting, providing practical experience across a variety of professional contexts. Additional modules in Multilingualism and Language Policy and Aspects of Professional Communication develop broader understanding of language use, policy, and communication in diverse social and institutional settings. Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience with contemporary tools and technologies such as translation memory, terminology management, subtitling, and machine translation, equipping them with the technical skills required in the modern language services sector. By combining theoretical knowledge, practical training, and research experience, the program prepares graduates for careers as translators, interpreters, project managers, and language professionals in international organisations, media, business, and cultural sectors, while also providing excellent preparation for further doctoral study in translation and interpreting studies.
