COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Sociology program offers a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum that combines theoretical understanding with practical research skills. Core modules such as Social Theory: Structure, Relations and Interaction and Cultural Criticism: Sources for a Public Sociology provide students with a strong foundation in sociological thought, critical analysis, and public engagement. Research Design and Research Strategy and Project Management equip students with the methodological and project management skills necessary to plan, conduct, and evaluate sociological research effectively. The Dissertation module allows students to undertake an independent research project, applying theoretical and methodological knowledge to explore a topic of personal or professional interest. Optional modules provide opportunities for specialization and skill development, including Data Analysis with R & RStudio, Qualitative Research Methods, Introduction to Qualitative Research Methods, Creative Methods, and Protest and Progress: Understanding Movements for Social and Political Change. These options enable students to deepen their expertise in areas such as quantitative and qualitative analysis, innovative research techniques, and social activism. Together, the program fosters critical thinking, methodological rigor, and applied research competence, preparing graduates for careers in research, policy, public engagement, and academia.
