COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Political Science – Democracy and Elections (Standard Route) offers a comprehensive curriculum that combines core political theory, research training, and applied analytical methods with opportunities for specialised study. Core modules such as Political Parties in Contemporary Britain examine the structure, behaviour, and influence of parties within the UK political system, while Comparative Political Analysis develops skills in evaluating political systems and institutions across different contexts. Research Design and Skills, together with Tools and Techniques of Applied Quantitative Analysis, provide students with the methodological expertise to conduct robust empirical research, and Understanding Political Change explores shifts in political behaviour, institutions, and democratic processes over time. The program culminates in a Dissertation, allowing students to undertake independent research that demonstrates mastery of theoretical knowledge and analytical skills. Optional modules, including Comparing Capitalisms in the Global Political Economy, Governing in an Unjust World: Justice and International Relations, European Capitalisms: Crises, Transformations and Contestations, and Understanding Governance, enable students to explore comparative, international, and thematic dimensions of politics and political economy, tailoring their studies to individual interests.
