COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Political Economy (Research Route) offers a structured curriculum designed to equip students with advanced knowledge and research skills in the field of political economy. Core modules include Theoretical Approaches to Political Economy, which introduces key frameworks for understanding economic, social, and political systems, and Research Design and Skills, which provides essential training in planning and conducting rigorous research. Philosophy of Politics Research explores the theoretical foundations of political inquiry, while Qualitative Research Methods and Introduction to Quantitative Methods develop practical skills in collecting, analysing, and interpreting data using diverse methodologies. The program culminates in a Dissertation, allowing students to undertake an independent research project that demonstrates their ability to engage critically with complex political and economic issues. Optional modules enable students to tailor their studies to specific interests, covering areas such as The Political Economy of Global Business, Poverty, Inequality and Government Policy in Less Developed Countries, Economics of Environmental Policy, and Global Economic History, providing opportunities to specialise in thematic or regional perspectives. By combining theoretical understanding, methodological training, and applied research, the MA prepares graduates for careers in research, policy analysis, consultancy, and related fields.
