COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Philosophy provides a structured curriculum that combines core research training with opportunities to explore a wide range of topics in analytic philosophy. The mandatory module, Philosophy Research Skills, equips students with essential methods and techniques for conducting rigorous philosophical research, including critical analysis, argumentation, and academic writing. Optional modules allow students to tailor their studies to specific interests, covering areas such as Philosophical Methods, Ethics, Philosophy of Mind, Philosophy of Language, and Aesthetics, alongside specialised courses like Landmark Papers in Analytic Philosophy, How to Do Things with Words Today: Speech Acts and the Social World, and the History of Analytic Philosophy. These modules enable students to engage with both historical and contemporary debates, developing a deep understanding of key philosophical issues and approaches. The program culminates in the MA Philosophy Dissertation, providing an opportunity for independent, in-depth research under academic supervision and allowing students to contribute original analysis to their chosen area of study. Through this combination of core research skills, thematic exploration, and dissertation work, graduates develop advanced analytical, reasoning, and communication skills.
