COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Education for a Sustainable Environment program provides students with comprehensive training in sustainability-focused education, equipping them with the skills to address environmental and social challenges in diverse learning contexts. Core modules, including Introduction to Sustainability Education, Community and Policy in Sustainability Education, Approaches to Sustainability Education, Planning and Piloting Research in Sustainability Education, and the Dissertation, offer a strong foundation in both theoretical understanding and practical application. Students learn how to design, implement, and evaluate educational initiatives that promote sustainability, environmental awareness, and community engagement. Optional modules, such as Language Education as Intercultural Practice, Social Justice, Poverty and Place from the Global to the Local, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in International Education, Educational Leadership and Diversity, and Early Years Education, allow students to tailor their studies to specific areas of interest, enhancing their expertise in intercultural, social justice, and leadership dimensions of education. The program emphasises critical thinking, research skills, and the development of innovative, practical strategies to support sustainable learning communities. Graduates are prepared to take on roles in schools, higher education, non-governmental organisations, and community-based initiatives, using evidence-based approaches to influence policy, design impactful sustainability programs, and contribute to global and local efforts to address environmental and societal challenges through education.
