COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Creative Writing program at The University of Manchester provides students with advanced training in fiction, poetry, and literary practice, combining critical study with practical writing experience. The core Dissertation module enables students to undertake an extended piece of creative work under expert supervision, allowing for the development of a distinctive literary voice and the application of techniques learned throughout the course. Optional modules such as Forms of Fiction, Twenty-first Century Literature and Literary Culture, and Trans Theory provide opportunities for in-depth study of literary forms, contemporary cultural debates, and theoretical perspectives that inform creative practice. Workshop modules, including Workshop in Fiction Writing I and II, Writing Poems I and II, offer hands-on experience, peer feedback, and guidance from experienced writers, fostering both technical skill and creative confidence. Reading Poems: Lyric and the Anthropocene encourages engagement with contemporary poetic discourse, while Publishing: History, Theory, Practice introduces the practical and professional aspects of the literary industry.
