COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLB Law with Politics program at the University of Manchester combines rigorous legal study with political analysis, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of law, governance, and political systems. In Year 1, students establish a strong foundation in law through core modules such as Introduction to Law and Legal Skills, Public Law, and Obligations I & II, while also engaging with contemporary political issues and theory through modules like Contemporary Issues in Law and Politics, with optional courses in Comparative Politics and Political Theory. Year 2 builds on this foundation with core legal modules in Land Law and Criminal Law, alongside optional modules in Human Rights, Law in a Global Context, commercial law, and applied legal practice. Political studies in this year cover quantitative and qualitative approaches, security studies, international politics, and the development of British society since 1940. In Year 3, students can undertake a dissertation to develop independent research skills and choose from a wide range of optional modules including Criminal Evidence, Company Law, Family Law, Intellectual Property, British Constitutional Reform, Philosophy of Law, Banking Law, and Competition Law in an international context. Throughout the program, students develop critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills, gaining insight into the interplay between law and politics. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in law, policy, governance, public service, and international affairs, with pathways for professional legal qualification.
