COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLB Law with Criminology program at the University of Manchester combines comprehensive legal study with an in-depth exploration of criminology, providing students with the skills to understand law, crime, and social responses to offending. In Year 1, students develop foundational knowledge in law through modules such as Introduction to Law and Legal Skills, Criminal Law, and Obligations I & II, while gaining essential criminological understanding via Criminological Research Methods and Crime and Society. Year 2 expands both legal and criminological knowledge with core modules in Land Law, Public Law, and Policing and the Police, alongside optional criminology modules such as Explaining Crime and Deviance, Modelling Criminological Data, and Understanding Punishment. Students also have opportunities to engage with applied legal practice and explore human rights, commercial law, and global legal contexts. In Year 3, students can specialize further through optional modules covering diverse areas such as drugs and society, youth crime, white-collar and corporate crime, mass violence, comparative criminology, crime mapping, and responses to organised crime. A short dissertation enables independent research and critical engagement with criminological or legal topics. Through this combination of theory, research, and practical learning, the program equips graduates with analytical, problem-solving, and professional skills, preparing them for careers in law, criminal justice, policy, research, and related sectors, with a strong foundation for professional legal qualification.
