COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Planning and Real Estate degree provides a detailed understanding of urban development, planning processes, and real estate markets, blending theory with practical skills to prepare students for professional careers in planning, property, and development. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in sustainable futures, planning and development, real estate, urban and environmental economics, and GIS and digital tools for decision-making, while optional units explore rural planning, real estate law, and place-making. The second year develops applied skills through projects, research methods, plan making, policy for cities and regions, valuation and appraisal, and data analytics for planning and real estate. Students can also undertake a professional placement or study optional topics such as environmental planning and assessment or strategic real estate management, gaining hands-on experience in real-world settings. In the final year, students consolidate their learning with a dissertation and mandatory units in planning and property law, and urban theory, planning theory, and professional values. Optional units allow further specialisation in areas such as housing, planning and development, real estate investment and finance, future cities, and nature-focused initiatives like rewilding and planning for nature recovery. Through a combination of lectures, workshops, project work, and optional placements, the course equips students with analytical, research, and professional skills, preparing graduates for careers in planning, property development, consultancy, and urban policy.
