COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Neuroscience degree provides a comprehensive understanding of the structure and function of the nervous system, examining how the brain controls behaviour, movement, perception, memory, sleep, and other vital functions. In the first year, students establish a solid foundation in biological sciences, including biochemistry, molecular biology, human biology, cellular processes, genetics, and the study of body systems, alongside laboratory skills and academic tutorials. This first-year knowledge prepares students for more specialized study in the second year, which covers core neuroscience topics such as neurophysiology, sensory and motor systems, membrane excitability, neuropharmacology, and the biological basis of drugs and their effects on the brain. Students also develop skills in scientific communication, experimental techniques, and the study of human sciences, with optional modules exploring cellular membrane structure and function. In the third year, students focus on advanced topics and independent research, undertaking projects and optional modules in neuroinflammation, neuropharmacology, learning, memory and cognition, circadian rhythms, and bioethics in contemporary neuroscience. The program combines theoretical knowledge with practical laboratory experience, preparing graduates for careers in research, medicine, biotechnology, or further study, while equipping them with analytical, experimental, and communication skills essential for understanding the complexities of the nervous system.
