COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Global Development program provides a comprehensive understanding of global development issues through a blend of theoretical and practical learning. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation by studying qualitative and quantitative research methods, current global development challenges, and the historical and interdisciplinary perspectives that shape development thinking. Year 2 deepens this knowledge with core study in sustainable global development and the political economy of globalisation, while offering a range of optional modules such as urban development in the Global South, disasters and development, global health, and public economics. These modules allow students to explore specific aspects of development practice and policy in diverse contexts. In the final year, students undertake an independent Global Development Dissertation, applying research skills to a topic of their choice. A wide selection of optional modules further enables them to focus on themes such as decolonising disaster studies, feminist geographies, urban transformation, health in developing countries, and the role of labour and globalisation in Asia. Together, these modules equip students with the analytical, methodological, and critical thinking skills necessary to engage effectively with complex global challenges and pursue impactful careers in international development, policy, and humanitarian work.
