COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Cognitive Neuroscience and Psychology course provides a scientific foundation in understanding how brain activity shapes human behaviour and mental processes. In the first year, students develop essential laboratory and research skills while exploring topics such as developmental and social psychology, neuroscience, and psychopharmacology through modules like Drugs: From Molecules to Man, Excitable Cells, and Introduction to Experimental Biology. The second year deepens understanding of neural and psychological mechanisms with courses in Sensory and Motor Systems, Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience, Personality and Individual Differences, and Developmental and Social Psychology. Students also build strong research and data analysis skills through modules in Statistics and Psychological Research. In the final year, students apply their knowledge through an independent research project and advanced modules such as Neuropharmacology, Learning, Memory and Cognition, and Clocks, Sleep and the Rhythms of Life. Optional topics like Neuroinflammation and Hormones and Behaviour provide insight into specialized areas of neuroscience and behaviour. The course combines rigorous theoretical study with hands-on research experience, preparing graduates for professional roles in psychology, neuroscience, or biomedical research, as well as for further study toward chartered psychologist status or postgraduate training in related scientific disciplines.
