COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Actuarial Science and Mathematics program offers a rigorous three-year curriculum combining core mathematical theory with actuarial and financial applications, preparing students for professional careers in actuarial practice, finance, and risk management. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge through modules such as Microeconomics 1, Macroeconomics 1, Linear Algebra, Real Analysis, Mathematical Foundations and Analysis, Vector Calculus, Ordinary Differential Equations, Probability 1, Statistics 1, and introductory finance covering investments and the time value of money. These courses establish strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills. The second year builds on this foundation with more specialised mathematical and actuarial topics, including Practical Statistics, Introduction to Financial Mathematics, Contingencies 1, Partial Differential Equations and Vector Calculus, Linear Regression Models, Stochastic Processes, and Probability and Statistics 2. Optional modules such as Fundamentals of Finance and Financial Reporting provide additional exposure to finance and accounting principles. In the third year, students focus on advanced actuarial and statistical methods through modules like Markov Processes, Tools for Risk Management, Time Series Analysis, Multivariate Statistics and Machine Learning, Generalised Linear Models, Contingencies 2, and Mortality Modelling in Insurance, with optional modules in Corporate Finance, Innovation, and New Product Development. The program equips graduates with the mathematical expertise, statistical competence, and practical skills needed for careers in actuarial science, financial services, risk analysis, and data-driven decision-making.
