COURSE CURRICULUM

The BNurs Children's Nursing program provides a comprehensive blend of academic learning and practical clinical experience to prepare students for professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and a successful career in pediatric nursing. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in subjects such as public health, anatomy, physiology, evidence-based practice, collaborative care planning, and values-based nursing, complemented by simulated practice and clinical placements that allow them to apply theory in real-world settings. The second year focuses on developing deeper clinical competence, with continued clinical placements across diverse pediatric settings and modules on applied biosciences, nursing knowledge and skills development, and optional units covering mental health in children, dementia care, critical and intensive care, tissue viability, and end-of-life care. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through advanced clinical placements and modules emphasizing professional leadership, evidence-based practice, and facilitation of learning, enabling them to manage complex care situations confidently. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to develop critical thinking, clinical decision-making, and leadership skills, as well as an understanding of the social and political context of healthcare. Graduates leave well-equipped to deliver safe, compassionate, and effective nursing care for children, contributing to healthcare practice, research, and policy development.
