COURSE CURRICULUM

The BASS Criminology and Data Analytics course offers a comprehensive blend of criminological theory, social science, and advanced data analysis. In the first year, students are introduced to core areas such as social research, inequality measurement, and applied statistics, alongside foundational criminology modules exploring crime, criminal justice, and research methods. These units build a strong understanding of how crime and society interact and how quantitative data can reveal social patterns. In the second year, the focus shifts toward applying analytical tools to criminological research, with core study in survey design, data modelling, and punishment systems. Students can choose from a range of criminology and philosophy options, such as policing, deviance, or race and ethics, allowing them to tailor their learning to their interests. The final year emphasizes independent research and advanced statistical modelling for social sciences, supported by options like comparative criminology, youth justice, and organised crime. Students can undertake a long or short dissertation, integrating their data analysis and criminological expertise. By combining theory, empirical research, and practical data skills, the course prepares graduates for careers in data-driven policy, criminal justice, research, and analytics, while offering opportunities to study abroad or gain professional experience.
