COURSE CURRICULUM

The BAEcon Finance program combines rigorous study in economics and finance, offering students a comprehensive understanding of financial decision-making, markets, and institutions. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in financial reporting, management accounting, and financial decision-making, alongside microeconomics and macroeconomics, providing a balanced mix of theoretical and practical knowledge. Optional modules such as development studies and introductory mathematics allow students to broaden their analytical and contextual skills. In the second year, the focus shifts to investment analysis, financial statement analysis, and the foundations of finance, equipping students with advanced techniques for evaluating financial performance and market behavior. Optional units in areas such as financial markets, corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, and emerging technologies like FinTech, blockchain, and cryptocurrencies prepare students for the evolving financial landscape. The final year emphasizes empirical finance, where students apply quantitative methods to real-world financial data, alongside options in international finance, financial derivatives, corporate governance, auditing, and contemporary issues in financial reporting and regulation. This combination of core and optional modules develops analytical, technical, and decision-making skills, preparing graduates for careers in investment banking, financial management, asset management, and consultancy.
