COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Economics program provides students with a strong foundation in economic theory, quantitative methods, and practical applications in finance and business. In the first year, students study core topics in microeconomics and macroeconomics, gaining an understanding of economic principles, market behaviour, and government policy, alongside social science perspectives on power and value. Optional units in finance, financial reporting, development studies, and mathematics allow students to tailor their learning to their interests and career goals. In the second year, students build on this foundation with advanced study in microeconomics and macroeconomics, alongside opportunities to explore finance, accounting, investment analysis, and financial markets, equipping them with analytical and practical skills relevant to both public and private sectors. The final year allows students to deepen their expertise and specialise further, with optional units in corporate finance, international finance, financial derivatives, auditing, corporate governance, and business law, preparing them for professional roles in economics, finance, and management. Across all three years, the program emphasises analytical thinking, quantitative methods, and real-world application, providing students with the tools to critically assess economic issues, understand financial systems, and make informed decisions in complex business and policy contexts, while supporting career readiness in a wide range of sectors.
