COURSE CURRICULUM

The Economics and Sociology degree integrates rigorous economic theory with the study of social structures, providing students with a strong foundation in both disciplines. In the first year, students focus on core economic principles including microeconomics and macroeconomics, while also exploring the social sciences through courses such as Power and Value: Perspectives from Social Sciences. Optional modules in finance, financial reporting, development studies, and mathematics allow students to begin tailoring their studies to individual interests. The second year builds on this foundation, with advanced economics topics such as investment analysis, financial statement analysis, and management accounting, alongside optional modules in business law and finance. This year enables students to deepen their understanding of economic systems and develop practical analytical and quantitative skills relevant to both economics and sociological research. In the final year, students specialise further through optional modules in financial markets, international finance, financial derivatives, corporate governance, auditing, and financial engineering. This allows for the integration of economic theory and sociological insights in applied contexts, preparing students to evaluate complex societal and financial issues. Across all years, the course emphasises data analysis, critical thinking, and the interplay between economic and social systems, equipping graduates for careers in finance, policy, research, consultancy, and other roles requiring interdisciplinary expertise and evidence-based decision-making.
