COURSE CURRICULUM

The BAEcon Economics and Finance program provides a rigorous education in both economics and finance, combining theoretical understanding with practical skills to prepare students for careers in business, finance, government, and research. In the first year, students build a solid foundation in core economic principles through microeconomics and macroeconomics modules, alongside introductory finance and accounting units such as financial reporting, management accounting, and financial decision-making. Optional modules allow exploration of development studies and mathematics to strengthen analytical skills. In the second year, the curriculum advances to investment analysis, financial statement analysis, and foundations of finance, complemented by intermediate economic theory. Optional modules offer opportunities to explore emerging areas such as FinTech, blockchain, and mergers and acquisitions, equipping students to engage with contemporary financial markets. The final year emphasizes applied and empirical skills, including empirical finance and advanced corporate finance, alongside optional modules in international finance, financial derivatives, business law, and auditing. Students develop the ability to analyse financial data, evaluate policy and investment decisions, and understand complex market mechanisms. The program combines quantitative training with critical thinking and practical application, ensuring graduates are well-prepared to address real-world economic and financial challenges while contributing to innovation and leadership in global financial and economic systems.
