COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Politics, Philosophy and Economics program combines rigorous study across three complementary disciplines, providing students with a strong foundation in political theory, philosophical reasoning, and economic analysis. In the first year, students develop essential skills in microeconomics, macroeconomics, political theory, and the social context of PPE, while optional units allow for further development in mathematics, statistics, and philosophy, strengthening analytical and critical thinking abilities. The second year deepens economic understanding with units in econometrics, micro- and macroeconomic theory, environmental economics, economic history, and quantitative methods, alongside optional advanced mathematics and statistics to support economic modelling. Students also explore managerial and mathematical economics, integrating economic theory with practical applications in markets, pricing, and strategy. In the third year, students engage with advanced topics across all three disciplines, including issues in inequality and poverty, behavioural economics, and the Chinese economy, while having the opportunity to undertake a dissertation in economics or specialised research projects. The program also includes contemporary topics in PPE to encourage interdisciplinary perspectives and critical debate. By combining these areas of study, the course equips students with a versatile skill set in analysis, reasoning, data interpretation, and argumentation, preparing graduates for careers in policy, government, international organisations, research, and other sectors requiring nuanced interdisciplinary understanding.
