COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Education, Leadership and Culture program offers an interdisciplinary approach to understanding education, leadership, and cultural engagement. In the first year, students build a foundation in key concepts through units such as University – A User’s Guide, Education in Context, Bourdieu's Capitals and the City, Heritage Education, Digital Learning Cultures, and Culture, Equity and Community, developing critical thinking and analytical skills. In the second year, the course focuses on leadership, research, and professional practice in creative and cultural education, with core units including Leadership Cultures in Education, Social and Cultural Research in Education, Professional Practice in Creative and Cultural Education, Digital Learning Design and Storytelling, and Schools, Communities and Local Knowledge. Optional modules allow exploration of inclusive education, literacy, pedagogic practices, intercultural learning, and international education systems. The final year emphasizes applied learning and advanced study, with units such as Cultural Representation in Education, Professional Practice in Education, Leadership and Culture, and a Final Year Project. Optional units cover theories of equity, classroom communication, edutainment, urban educational inequalities, critical pedagogies in higher education, language acquisition, and issues of race and ethnicity. Across all three years, students gain hands-on experience, develop leadership and cultural skills, and engage with communities and institutions, preparing them for careers in education, cultural management, and leadership roles.
