COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Digital Media, Culture and Society program provides a comprehensive exploration of the role of digital technology in shaping culture and society. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in digital research, media theory, and data analysis through core modules such as Researching in the Digital Age, Thinking Digital Media, and Histories of Data, while optional units offer insights into topics like digital activism, fake media, and the socio-economic impact of arts. In the second year, the focus shifts to advanced digital methods and critical perspectives, with compulsory courses including Big Questions in the Digital World and Researching with Digital Methods, alongside optional modules on feminist and queer perspectives, race and technology, digital ways of seeing, and archiving culture. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through a dissertation and a mandatory Digital Futures module, applying theoretical and practical skills to real-world challenges. Optional units allow students to specialise further, covering areas such as digital art, gaming, spatial history, mobile technologies, media impact, and climate change. Throughout the course, students develop analytical, research, and creative skills, preparing them for careers in digital media, social media, entertainment, journalism, and other sectors where digital literacy, innovation, and critical thinking are essential.
