COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Cultural, Creative and Media Industries program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the operation and impact of cultural, creative, and media sectors. In the first year, students engage with foundational concepts such as the nature of culture as an industry, the evolution of creative work from traditional artisans to knowledge economies, and the ethical, data-driven approaches to researching creative industries. Optional modules allow exploration of digital culture, activism, film, art spaces, and entrepreneurial skills. In the second year, the focus shifts to the management and development of creative economies, marketing, audience engagement, and the practicalities of creative enterprise. Students can also explore topics such as feminist and queer perspectives on digital media, race and technology, screen culture, applied theatre, and music studies, fostering a broad, interdisciplinary understanding. The final year emphasizes independent research and professional practice, with a mandatory dissertation and a module on understanding creative work in practice, alongside optional units on global cultural and creative industries, video and online gaming, enterprise strategy, and developing business ideas. Across all three years, the course combines theoretical knowledge, applied skills, and industry-focused learning to equip graduates with the critical, creative, and professional competencies needed for successful careers in cultural, creative, and media industries.
