COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Psychology and Criminology program is structured over three years and combines key elements of both disciplines to provide a comprehensive understanding of human behaviour and crime. In Year 1, students are introduced to core topics such as the psychology of mental health, understanding the individual, foundations of criminology, research methods, brain and behaviour, and professional applications of psychology. These modules build a strong foundation in both psychological theory and criminological concepts. Year 2 develops this knowledge further through more advanced study of neuroscience, lifespan development, personality and individual differences, social and critical psychology, cognitive psychology, and mixed methods research, strengthening analytical and research skills. In Year 3, students focus on mental health and wellbeing alongside completing a dissertation, which involves independent research on a chosen topic. They also select three optional modules from areas such as urban criminology, migration, cybercrime, media and crime, social harms, and terrorism, allowing them to tailor their studies to their interests. Overall, the course provides a balanced mix of theory, research, and application, equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed for careers in criminal justice, psychology-related fields, or further academic study.
