COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Criminology program is structured over three years, combining theoretical knowledge with research skills and practical application. In Year 1, students are introduced to key criminological theories, the criminal justice system, and contemporary issues in crime, alongside modules exploring media and crime and developing academic, career, and AI literacy skills. Year 2 builds on this foundation with modules such as Prisons and Probation, Identity, Diversity and Criminology, and both qualitative and quantitative research methods, enabling students to analyse crime from multiple perspectives and develop strong research abilities. In Semester 2, students can choose options like Cybercrime, Victims and Victimisation, or a workplace placement, allowing them to apply their knowledge in real-world contexts. In Year 3, students further specialise by selecting optional modules such as International Criminology, Policing, Society and Punishment, Forensic and Criminal Psychology, Evidence and Forensics, and Crimes of the Powerful. A dissertation is completed across the final year, encouraging independent research and critical analysis. Overall, the course provides a comprehensive understanding of crime, justice, and social issues while equipping students with analytical, research, and employability skills for careers in the criminal justice sector and beyond.
