COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Criminology and Policing program is a three-year degree that integrates criminological theory with practical policing knowledge. In Year 1, students are introduced to core concepts through modules such as Criminological Theory, Police Powers, and the Police Constable Role, alongside Contemporary Issues in Criminology and AI Literacy, while also developing academic and career skills. Year 2 builds on this foundation with modules including Prisons and Probation, Custody and Police Interview, and both qualitative and quantitative research methods, enabling students to understand policing procedures and develop strong research abilities. In Semester 2, students can choose options such as Cybercrime, Vulnerability and Risk, or a workplace placement to gain practical experience. In Year 3, students study Public Protection and Major and Serious Crime, focusing on complex policing issues such as safeguarding, investigations, and community trust. They also select optional modules such as International Criminology, Policing and the Police, Society and Punishment, Forensic and Criminal Psychology, Evidence and Forensics, or Crimes of the Powerful. A dissertation is completed across the final year, encouraging independent research. Overall, the course combines theory, practical skills, and professional preparation for careers in policing and criminal justice.
