The Future Energy Demand module examines changing global and regional energy requirements, energy modelling, electrification trends, smart grid technologies, and the challenges associated with balancing energy supply and demand in low-carbon economies. Students also study Interactive Digital Factory Systems, gaining insight into Industry 4.0 technologies such as digital twins, automation, smart manufacturing, and data-driven production systems that improve efficiency and sustainability. Renewable Energy Generation provides detailed knowledge of solar, wind, hydroelectric, and emerging renewable technologies alongside energy storage systems, grid integration, and optimisation methods. Sustainability remains a central focus throughout the programme through the study of environmental impact assessments, climate change mitigation, systems thinking, and sustainable development policies. The Zero Carbon Built Infrastructure module further develops expertise in low-carbon construction methods, building performance analysis, and energy-efficient design strategies, ensuring graduates are well prepared to contribute to net zero initiatives and the development of sustainable infrastructure and energy systems worldwide.
