COURSE CURRICULUM

This cyber security programme with Advanced Practice combines advanced academic study with practical industry experience to prepare students for professional roles in information security, risk management and cyber defence. The Advanced Practice module provides opportunities to gain real-world experience through vocational internships with external organisations, research and development internships on campus and employer-led projects that align with students' skills and career ambitions. Students receive support in securing placements and are guided throughout the process by an academic supervisor who provides both academic and pastoral assistance, while assessment is based on reflective learning and professional development. The Data Security and Information Governance module introduces information security management systems, governance frameworks and legislative compliance requirements while examining physical and software-based security technologies used to protect sensitive information and maintain privacy. Hacking the Human, Ethics and Law focuses on social engineering attacks and human vulnerabilities that criminals exploit to gain access to systems, while also exploring legal and ethical topics including intellectual property rights, computer crime, contracts, privacy and data protection legislation. The Masters Project enables students to undertake an independent work-based or research-focused investigation that reflects their professional interests, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge to practical challenges and demonstrate continuous learning and development. Mobile Systems and Cyber Security develops expertise in wireless technologies, cellular systems and sensor networks while examining communication protocols, mobile infrastructures and the security measures required to protect connected devices and modern communication systems. Systems Administration and Security provides both theoretical and practical understanding of cyber security through the study of cryptography, security models and defence strategies against cyber attacks. Students explore authentication methods, digital signatures, access control mechanisms, firewalls, network forensics, penetration testing, intrusion detection systems and wireless security technologies while developing the skills needed to manage and protect modern digital infrastructures. Together, these modules prepare graduates for careers in cyber security, information assurance, digital risk management and secure systems administration across a variety of industries.
