COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Environmental Management (with Advanced Practice) at Teesside University combines advanced environmental science education with valuable professional experience through an internship component. The course includes an Advanced Practice in Sciences module where students complete an internship of up to 12 weeks, helping them develop transferable, analytical and workplace skills while strengthening their CV and improving employability. The university guarantees a research internship and also provides support to students seeking vocational placements. The programme includes an Advanced Research Project, allowing students to investigate a real environmental management issue independently and produce a dissertation and poster presentation demonstrating originality, autonomy and ethical practice. Core modules include Climate Change, which examines climate systems, human impacts and global environmental change; Conservation, focusing on biodiversity protection, global change biology, invasive species and rewilding approaches; Environmental Management, covering environmental impact assessments, environmental auditing, regulatory frameworks and ISO14000 standards; Global Energy Resources, exploring fossil fuels, decarbonisation and sustainable energy solutions; Global Water Resources, which investigates freshwater systems, water use conflicts and sustainable water management strategies; and Sustainability and Society, analysing the relationship between human activities, environmental degradation and sustainable development through interdisciplinary perspectives. Through a combination of lectures, research projects and practical learning experiences, students gain expertise in environmental stewardship, sustainability planning and resource management. Graduates are well prepared for careers in environmental consultancy, sustainability management, conservation organisations, environmental regulation, climate policy, renewable energy sectors and governmental agencies, while the advanced practice route also provides an excellent foundation for further research and PhD study.
