COURSE CURRICULUM
This Digital Forensics and Cyber Investigation programme provides students with advanced knowledge and practical skills in digital evidence analysis, cyber investigations, incident response, and forensic computing. The course develops expertise in Computer Forensic Investigations, where students learn how data is stored within computer systems and how digital evidence can be identified, collected, preserved, analysed, and reported using industry-standard forensic tools and methodologies. Practical learning takes place in specialist digital forensic laboratories and includes the preparation of detailed investigative reports based on realistic scenarios. The Computing Masters Project enables students to undertake an independent research or industry-based investigation, resulting in significant outputs such as forensic tools, software applications, research findings, or investigative studies while strengthening project management and analytical skills. Digital Forensics and Incident Response introduces the principles of cyber incident management, forensic processes, and professional practices required to investigate and respond to security breaches effectively. Internet and Network Forensics develops expertise in browser investigations, internet history recovery, cache reconstruction, network evidence analysis, privacy technologies, and reverse engineering techniques associated with online activities and communications. Mobile Device Forensics focuses on specialist methods for investigating smartphones and tablets, including data acquisition, rooting, jailbreaking, JTAG techniques, and hardware-level analysis. IT Ethics and Law provides knowledge of legal frameworks including privacy legislation, intellectual property rights, computer crime, contracts, liability, and data protection regulations relevant to digital investigations. Software for Digital Innovation introduces Python programming and software development skills to support automation and technical problem solving within forensic environments. The programme also includes advanced practice opportunities through vocational or research internships, allowing students to gain valuable professional experience in industry or academic research settings. These opportunities enhance employability and prepare graduates for careers in digital forensics, cyber investigation, incident response, law enforcement, intelligence analysis, and cyber security across public and private sector organisations.
