COURSE CURRICULUM
This MSc Psychology Conversion programme is designed to provide graduates from non-psychology backgrounds with comprehensive knowledge, research skills and practical experience required to progress within psychology-related careers or further professional training. The Applied Qualitative Research Methods module develops advanced skills in designing, conducting and evaluating qualitative psychological research. Students explore the theoretical foundations of qualitative approaches, gain practical experience in data collection, transcription and analysis, and develop the ability to complete independent research projects using qualitative methods. The Applied/Advanced Practice in Social Sciences, Humanities and Law module provides valuable workplace experience by allowing students to apply psychological knowledge to real-world professional projects through internships, work-based learning or research activities supported by academic guidance. Biological and Social Psychology introduces students to biological, neurological, evolutionary and social explanations of human behaviour, helping them understand how biological and environmental factors influence psychological processes. Development, Cognitive Processes and Disorders explores key theories in developmental and cognitive psychology, including lifespan development, cognitive functioning, neuropsychological perspectives and psychological disorders. Introduction to Psychology: Classics to Contemporary provides a broad foundation in psychology, covering core areas recognised by the British Psychological Society, including cognitive psychology, social psychology, developmental psychology, biological psychology and individual differences, while exploring the historical development of the discipline. The Psychology Project enables students to undertake an independent research project under academic supervision, developing skills in evidence-based practice, research management and academic writing. Psychopathologies and Individual Differences develops critical understanding of psychological disorders, personality differences, theoretical perspectives and the use of psychometric assessments. Quantitative Research in Psychology develops competence in psychological research design, statistical analysis, data interpretation and academic reporting, preparing students to critically evaluate research evidence and conduct rigorous empirical studies. Overall, the programme develops strong research, analytical, communication and professional skills, preparing graduates for careers in psychology-related fields, research, healthcare, education, social services and further psychological training.
