COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Artificial Intelligence with Advanced Practice programme combines advanced study in artificial intelligence with practical industry or research experience, preparing students for careers in the rapidly expanding AI sector. The course begins with Artificial Intelligence Foundations, where students develop an understanding of knowledge representation, reasoning, algorithms, planning, and problem-solving techniques that underpin intelligent systems. Artificial Intelligence Ethics and Applications explores the use of AI technologies in areas such as chatbots, virtual assistants, medical diagnosis, fraud detection, biometric recognition, personalisation, and autonomous systems while examining ethical, security, and social implications. The Big Data and Business Intelligence module develops expertise in database systems, data warehousing, analytics, data visualisation, and large-scale data management to support business decision-making. Students build strong programming skills through Software for Digital Innovation, learning Python and its application to solving real-world problems and developing software solutions. Machine Learning introduces statistical modelling, prediction techniques, and algorithms that allow computers to learn from data, while Deep Learning focuses on advanced neural networks used in computer vision, speech recognition, natural language processing, and image analysis applications. The Computing Masters Project provides an opportunity to undertake an individual research or industry-based project, resulting in a substantial software solution, research study, or technical application supported by professional reporting and presentation. The Advanced Practice component adds an additional internship semester through either a vocational industry placement or a university-based research internship, providing valuable professional experience and enhancing employability. Graduates are well prepared for careers in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, software engineering, research, and business intelligence across a wide range of industries.
