COURSE CURRICULUM

The programme offers a comprehensive and industry-focused curriculum that develops advanced knowledge and practical skills in petroleum engineering, reservoir management, energy production, and sustainable energy technologies. Students begin with an Engineering Research Project, where they undertake independent research addressing real-world sustainability or clean energy challenges while applying advanced analytical methods and technical evaluation to produce industry-relevant solutions. The Hydrocarbon Exploration and Production Engineering module provides a detailed understanding of hydrocarbon exploration techniques, drilling operations, well completion processes, production systems, and surface facilities used in oil and gas extraction and treatment. Students also study well performance analysis, inflow performance relationships, and natural gas processing technologies such as sweetening and dehydration. In Petroleum Chemistry, students explore the composition and behaviour of crude oil and reservoir fluids under varying temperature and pressure conditions using equations of state and industry-standard reservoir simulation software. The module also examines oilfield corrosion, scaling mechanisms, and methods for monitoring and prevention. Petroleum Economics and Simulation develops an understanding of project valuation, asset assessment, reservoir simulation technologies, and reservoir management strategies, enabling students to evaluate the financial and technical performance of petroleum projects. Through Petroleum Reservoir Engineering, students gain knowledge of reservoir properties, fluid flow through porous media, geological formations, well testing, and well logging interpretation, which are essential for effective reservoir evaluation and management. The Quality, Health, Safety and Environment module focuses on safety management systems, hazard identification, risk assessment, quality management, environmental regulations, and industry best practices required to operate safely and responsibly within the energy sector. Sustainability in Chemical Engineering further strengthens the programme by introducing environmental assessment methods, environmental management systems, clean technologies, renewable energy solutions, and sustainable engineering strategies aimed at reducing environmental impact and supporting the transition towards a more sustainable global energy industry.
