COURSE CURRICULUM
The Adult Nursing programme is structured to develop the advanced knowledge, clinical skills and professional competencies required for registration as a skilled and compassionate adult nurse. The course begins with the completion of an RPL portfolio, which recognises previous learning and professional experience through the successful submission of evidence in accordance with university procedures. During the second year, students undertake A Partnership in Care – Valuing the Experts by Experience, which develops an understanding of qualitative research methods and interpretative approaches used within healthcare and applied psychology. Students explore research methodologies such as phenomenological, ethnographic, narrative and discourse-based approaches while gaining practical experience in data collection, analysis and research design through a substantial research proposal and analysis project. Contemporary Public Health in Nursing Practice develops knowledge of public health principles and the nurse’s role in promoting health and wellbeing at local, national and global levels while examining health inequalities, legislation and public health policies that influence patient care. Developing a Skilled and Compassionate Adult Nurse runs throughout the academic year and supports the integration of theoretical learning with clinical practice, helping students build essential nursing skills and prepare for placements across a range of healthcare environments. Integrating Evidence-Based Decision Making in Adult Nursing introduces students to evidence-based practice and clinical decision-making frameworks that support safe, effective and person-centred care in diverse healthcare settings. During the final year, Biopsychosocial Assessment and Decision Making in Adult Nursing further develops students’ clinical reasoning and assessment abilities, enabling them to manage complex patient needs, coordinate caseloads, lead teams and provide care for adults and their families across a variety of healthcare environments. Leading Innovative Evidence-Based Nursing focuses on research utilisation, leadership and service improvement by requiring students to identify a practice issue, develop an evidence-based solution and demonstrate the leadership skills needed to implement sustainable improvements in patient care. Together, these modules prepare graduates to become resilient, compassionate and future-ready nursing professionals capable of delivering high-quality healthcare and leading change within modern healthcare systems.
