In digital control design and implementation, students gain expertise in digital circuit analysis, system design methodologies, VHDL modelling, rapid prototyping, and modern implementation technologies, supported by laboratory sessions involving simulation and practical design tools. The electronic signal conditioning module focuses on precision measurement technologies and the circuit techniques required to convert raw sensor outputs into suitable signals for digital processing in industrial and scientific applications. Through the engineering research project, students undertake independent research addressing sustainability or clean energy challenges, applying advanced research methods and technical analysis to develop practical and industry-relevant solutions. The identification and model predictive control module introduces system identification techniques and demonstrates their use in adaptive and model-based control systems, with practical experience gained using MATLAB and Simulink. Students also study robust control systems, exploring methods such as Quantitative Feedback Theory and alternative approaches including expert systems and fuzzy logic to solve complex engineering problems under uncertain conditions. Practical assignments and computer-based assessments reinforce learning throughout the programme.
