COURSE CURRICULUM

This MSc Information Technology programme provides students with a comprehensive combination of technical expertise, strategic understanding and professional skills required for leadership roles in modern digital organisations. The Agile Development module develops practical experience in application development using agile methodologies such as SCRUM, enabling students to manage project objectives, schedules, deliverables and team responsibilities while preparing for contemporary industry practices. Big Data and Business Intelligence builds expertise in designing and implementing databases, analytics applications and large-scale data solutions to meet organisational needs, while exploring data warehouses, legacy system integration, data management and visualisation techniques that support informed decision-making. Cloud Computing and Virtualisation develops a deep understanding of cloud architectures, service models including Infrastructure as a Service, Platform as a Service and Software as a Service, and the virtualisation technologies that support modern enterprise environments. Students learn to design scalable infrastructures and evaluate public, private and hybrid cloud solutions in terms of security, performance and cost efficiency. The Computing Masters Project provides an opportunity to undertake an independent research or development project based on real commercial, industrial or academic challenges, culminating in a substantial technical deliverable and professional presentation of findings. Cyber Security Principles and Practice introduces the evolving cyber threat landscape, including malware, social engineering and advanced attacks, while developing expertise in risk management, security architectures and defensive technologies that protect organisational assets. IT Strategy and Digital Transformation examines how organisations align technology investments with business objectives and use digital transformation to support innovation, resilience and sustainable growth in a competitive global economy. Responsible AI for Professional Practice explores the relationship between artificial intelligence and human expertise while considering ethical, legal and social responsibilities associated with AI adoption. Students learn how to implement AI technologies responsibly and transparently while balancing innovation with accountability and professional judgement. Together, these modules prepare graduates for careers in information technology leadership, digital transformation, cyber security, cloud computing and data-driven business strategy.
