COURSE CURRICULUM

This cyber security programme provides students with advanced knowledge and practical expertise in protecting information systems, managing security risks and responding to modern cyber threats across a variety of industries. The Data Security and Information Governance module introduces the principles of information security and governance, focusing on information security management systems, legislative compliance and the protection of confidential information through both physical and software-based security measures. Students gain an understanding of industry frameworks and best practices that support effective information assurance and organisational security. Hacking the Human, Ethics and Law examines the growing threat of social engineering attacks and explores how individuals and organisations can reduce human-related vulnerabilities through awareness and security strategies. The module also develops understanding of legal and ethical issues including intellectual property rights, computer crime, contracts, liability, privacy legislation and data protection, enabling students to apply legal principles to real-world cyber security scenarios. The Masters Project provides an opportunity to undertake an independent research or work-based project tailored to individual interests and career aspirations, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge to practical challenges while developing research, analytical and problem-solving skills. Mobile Systems and Cyber Security focuses on modern wireless technologies, including wireless sensor networks and cellular systems, while examining the hardware, communication protocols and security measures required to protect connected devices and mobile infrastructures. Systems Administration and Security develops expertise in both theoretical and practical aspects of cyber defence, covering cryptography, cyber security models and methods used to prevent, detect and respond to attacks. Students explore access control mechanisms, authentication protocols, digital signatures, wireless security, firewalls, penetration testing, intrusion detection systems and network forensics while gaining an understanding of modern system administration practices. Together, these modules equip graduates with the technical, analytical and professional skills required for careers in cyber security, information governance, risk management and digital infrastructure protection across public and private sector organisations.
