COURSE CURRICULUM

The Dietetics programme combines academic learning, clinical practice, and research to prepare students for professional registration and practice as dietitians within a variety of healthcare settings. The Advanced Dietetic Management module develops detailed knowledge and understanding of dietetic interventions for individuals with long-term and life-limiting conditions, including children, older adults, individuals with learning disabilities or mental health conditions, and those requiring end-of-life care. Through the Clinical Correlations of Food and Nutrition module, students deepen their understanding of food science, nutrition, biomedical sciences, and their application to evidence-based dietetic practice. The Dietetic Management module equips students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to assess nutritional needs, implement safe and effective dietary interventions, and evaluate outcomes for individuals with conditions affecting major body systems across all stages of life. Clinical experience is an essential component of the programme, with Dietetics Practice Placement 1 providing 75 hours of practice-based learning alongside academic study, followed by a supervised 13-week placement that allows students to apply and enhance their professional skills. Dietetics Practice Placement 2 provides a further 13 weeks of clinical experience, enabling students to develop expertise in managing the nutritional needs of individuals, groups, and populations in diverse healthcare environments. The Dissertation Preparation for Health Professionals module develops research design, critical appraisal, and data analysis skills while preparing students to undertake ethical and evidence-based research projects. The Major Project for Health Professionals enables students to complete a substantial piece of research, such as a systematic review, service evaluation, audit, or original study relevant to dietetic practice. The programme also develops leadership, professionalism, and service improvement skills while promoting reflective practice and career readiness. Through the Promoting Health in Dietetic Practice module, students explore public health, behaviour change, health promotion strategies, and the development of digital resources aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of communities and populations.
