COURSE CURRICULUM

This data science conversion programme provides students with the knowledge and practical skills required to analyse complex data, develop intelligent systems and support data-driven decision-making in modern organisations. The Big Data and Business Intelligence module develops expertise in designing and implementing databases, analytics applications and big data solutions that address business needs and real-world challenges. Students explore the system development lifecycle while studying data warehouses, legacy system integration, data management and techniques for modelling and visualising large datasets for different users and business functions. Data Security and Information Governance introduces the principles of information security, governance frameworks and information security management systems while examining legislative compliance, privacy requirements and the protection of sensitive information through both physical and software-based security measures. The Machine Learning and Deep Learning module provides a strong foundation in computational techniques used to create predictive models and intelligent systems. Students study statistical methods, probability theory, learning algorithms and inference techniques while exploring advanced developments in artificial neural networks and deep learning technologies. The Masters Project enables students to apply their knowledge and skills to a work-based or research-focused project that reflects their professional interests and career goals. Through independent investigation and critical reflection, students develop problem-solving abilities and demonstrate their understanding of data science practice in real-world contexts. Statistics for Data Science strengthens students' analytical capabilities by introducing the quantitative and qualitative methods used to interpret data and support scientific investigation. Topics include correlation testing, regression analysis, data classification, normalisation and the application of statistical techniques to experimental work and business analysis. Throughout the programme, students develop technical competence alongside transferable skills such as communication, critical thinking and research, preparing them for careers in data science, analytics, business intelligence and emerging digital technologies across a wide range of industries.
